Mariachi Dragon

For 12 years, Mariachi Dragon has held the distinction of being mainland China’s first and only authentic mariachi ensemble. Founded on September 15, 2014, the group continues to serve as a vibrant ambassador of Mexican culture, bringing the traditions, music, and spirit of Mexico to audiences across China and Asia. Featuring genuine Mexican instruments, elegant charro suits, and the unmistakable energy of mariachi music, Mariachi Dragon was selected as the face of Mexico’s official tourism campaign in Beijing, VisitMexico.com (2018). The ensemble also appeared in the documentary *Ugly Little Monkeys* (2024), alongside Linda Ronstadt, directed by David E. Valdez and Edward James Olmos, highlighting the legacy and global cultural significance of mariachi music.

Widely regarded as a unique cultural bridge between Mexico and China, Mariachi Dragon celebrates 12 years of preserving and promoting one of Mexico’s most iconic artistic traditions to audiences across Asia. Through music, tradition, and cultural exchange, the ensemble has introduced thousands of people to the richness of Mexican heritage, establishing itself as a one-of-a-kind presence within the international performing arts landscape.

Founded in Guangzhou, China, by renowned singer-songwriter and producer Emilio Conde, a graduate of Berklee College of Music, Mariachi Dragon has performed at some of China’s most prestigious venues and events. Through their dynamic and captivating performances, the group proudly promotes Mexican music and culture, winning the hearts of enthusiastic audiences wherever they appear.

Among their most notable performances are appearances at the prestigious XingHai Concert Hall, Zhuhai Opera House, Guangzhou Latin Festival, the American Chamber of Commerce Gala, Guangdong Arts Festival, Foshan French Food & Culture Festival, InterCeramic China Grand Openings (2017–2020), events organized by the Mexican Chamber of Commerce, Interwine, the launch celebrations of Cerveza Sol and Tequila 1800 in China, the 2017 Latin America–China Business Summit, Guangzhou Design Week, and cultural programs hosted by the United States Consulate General in Guangzhou and Wuhan during Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations. Mariachi Dragon has also been a featured presence at special events organized by the Embassy and Consulate General of Mexico in China since its founding.

Throughout its history, the ensemble has participated in numerous diplomatic, business, academic, and cultural events, proudly representing Mexican identity while strengthening bonds of friendship and mutual understanding between Mexico, China, and the international community.

Mexican Mariachi Band “Dragon” Members

Mariachi Dragon is composed of seven exceptionally talented musicians, all graduates of world-renowned institutions such as Berklee College of Music, Fermatta Music University, G Martell University  and the Xi’an Conservatory of Music. Each member performs in authentic traditional charro attire and plays distinctive mariachi instruments, including the guitarrón and vihuela—rare instruments not readily available in China—helping preserve and showcase the vibrant cultural legacy of mariachi music.
